Helen Hines

Helen is a first year Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Primary) student.  Helen’s dream of become a teacher was magnified when her first child started kindergarten.  Now with three young children, Helen is well on her way to achieving that dream. Helen has also been actively involved with her children’s school of St Mary’s Primary School as the current School Parent Coordinator, Class parent, Parents and Friends Committee/ fundraising member and also manages to find time to assist students with their reading. She is also a general committee member with Dubbo and District Preschool. 

These all drive a passion to give back to her community and support and strengthen the schooling atmosphere. After completing her degree, Helen would like to specialize in special education behavioural management.

Kieran Vane

Kieran is in his first year of a Bachelor of Nursing.  From a welding apprentice to a qualified Health Services Assistant, Kieran is back on the road to following his dream.  Kieran’s passion is to help people and make a difference to people’s lives.

Throughout his past experiences he has strived to lead by example and to do everything to the best of his ability. 

Kieran has also volunteered for community groups such as the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Rotary.  Whilst at school Kieran has also enjoyed being a part of the school musical production, working behind the scenes to ensure the show ran smoothly.  His time management skills, working with others, being effective in a small amount of time will certainly help him through his time at CSU and also having his mother as a role model in the nursing industry will be a great motivation.

Jessica Weber

Jessica was unable to be in Dubbo on the night to receive her award as she is on her practical placement in Tottenham (which is also her home town). She is in her first year of the Bachelor of Nursing. Jessica boarded at Yanco Agricultural High School and enjoyed the challenges of being a part of the Student Representative Council, a dorm prefect and her final year as School Captain. She attributes these experiences to assisting her develop leadership qualities and the ability to get along with people of all ages. On leaving high school she was awarded the prestigious Yanconian of the Year award.  This award is given to a student who shows the highest levels of interest and commitment towards the school in areas of sport, academic and extracurricular activities.

Jessica would like to work in a rural area as she has seen firsthand the stresses people are placed under when having to travel long distances for consultation and treatment when there is insufficient trained staff local. On completion of her degree Jessica wants to further her studies in midwifery and women’s health.
